Talking Mats grew out of work with people with Learning Disabilities and we have had some impactful stories over the years.. Here are just a few to celebrate Scottish Learning Disabilities week 2026.

A cost-benefit analysis of using the Keeping Safe Resource.  This Resource was developed with input from Survivor Scotland, Kingdom Abuse Survivors project and the Scottish Government Keys to Life.

Development of an Interview Talking Mat with the Scottish Learning Disabilities Observatory.

Susan Gowland, SLT, describes using Talking Mats in a Forensic Learning Disabilities Setting to support patients to self report any changes with their mental health.

Claire Wiseman and Ann Lafferty from the Advocacy Project (Scotland) tell the story of a young woman with learning disabilities and psychosis who used Talking Mats to share her views about her care and planning.

Karen Mellon, NHS Fife Lead Podiatrist for Learning Disabilities and Care Homes, tells us about developing a Resource around foot care and including patients in their care.
